Types Of Charter

There is a large number of different types of charter boat such as fishing charters, dive charters, sailing yacht charters etc. However these types of charter boat or operation fall into two main categories, "bare-boat charters" also known as "demise charters" and "skippered charters".

Bare-boat charters, demise charters

A bare-boat charter or demise charter is by definition "A contract whereby the boat or ship owner leases a vessel to the charterer for a period of time during which the whole use and management of the vessel passes to the charterer. The charterer is to pay all expenses for the operation and maintenance of the vessel for the time leased. Any supplied officers and crew of the vessel will become servants of the charterer. A demise charter occurs when it is agreed, the charterer has the right to place his own master and crew on board of the vessel is also called "bare-boat charter".

Skippered charters

A skippered charter is a charter arrangement were the vessel is operated or "skippered" by the owner of the vessel or a master and crew appointed and supplied by the owner. The charterer relinquishes responsibility for the operation and management of the vessel whilst being chartered.
